Reviving a Legend
The 1996 Chevrolet Impala SS stands out as a favorite among car enthusiasts and collectors alike. With its aggressive stance, powerful V8 engine, and sleek design, it was a true reflection of American automotive craftsmanship in the ’90s. However, even legends need upkeep. Time and the elements had dulled the Impala’s finish, masking its original deep gloss and rich color.
On May 18, 2025, the vehicle arrived at our facility in need of rejuvenation. The owner wanted a complete restoration of the exterior appearance—something more than a traditional wash or wax. They turned to August Precision’s ceramic coating services to achieve a lasting, head-turning result.
The Ceramic Coating Process
The first step was to thoroughly wash and decontaminate the Impala’s surface. We used a combination of gentle, pH-balanced shampoos, iron removers, and clay bars to eliminate bonded contaminants. This careful cleansing ensures the paint surface is completely clean and free of embedded dirt, tar, and brake dust.
Next, our specialists performed a multi-stage paint correction to remove oxidation, swirl marks, fine scratches, and other imperfections. This step is critical to maximizing the gloss and depth of the paint before ceramic coating is applied. The deep black finish of the Impala began to come alive with each pass of the polishing machine.
After correction, the car was panel-wiped with a special solvent to remove any oils or residues. We then applied our premium-grade ceramic coating, carefully layering the product for optimal protection and durability. The coating chemically bonds with the vehicle’s clear coat, forming a long-lasting hydrophobic barrier.
Better Than Showroom Condition
The results were nothing short of breathtaking. The once-dull paint was now radiant and reflective, offering a mirror-like shine that accentuated every curve and contour of the Impala’s body. The finish was not just glossy—it was now protected from environmental damage, including UV rays, bird droppings, acid rain, and harsh detergents.
More importantly, the ceramic coating will reduce maintenance significantly. Thanks to its self-cleaning hydrophobic properties, water and dirt slide off effortlessly, making future washes quick and easy.
The owner of the Impala was thrilled. The vehicle didn’t just look new—it looked better than when it rolled off the showroom floor nearly 30 years ago.
